The studio came to be organically…

Growing up in North Alabama, the art of thrifting was introduced to me early on. Once you develop an eye for identifying hidden gems, the search can effortlessly take over your free time. For many, it’s the instantly gratifying feeling of knowing that you’ve made a great find (and don’t get me wrong, I’m as excited as anyone else to come across the perfect fit), but the truly fulfilling part for me came from feeling like I was experiencing different places in an environment that was thirsty for a broader cultural influence. Discovering that a piece I’d brought home could have sat in view of the Mediterranean decades earlier or come from an Appalachian home so nearly my neighbor but still out of reach gave me a sense of connectedness that I always loved.

Eventually, I found my way into interior design through the coastal vacation rental market in Charleston, SC. I loved the creative work and the fact that my day-to-day was spent creating spaces that left a lasting impact on what was often a family’s most important week of the year. As my work evolved, I began traveling often and was consistently drawn to flea markets, vintage shops, and artisan fairs throughout my travels. Rediscovering that pull towards sourcing outside of mass-market retail felt restorative. At the same time, the quick pace and increasingly mass-produced, thematic nature of vacation rental design stopped feeling inspiring and began feeling limiting.

So, I found my way back to my roots of celebrating culture, people, and stories through interiors, relocated to Southern California for a fresh start, and began Briley Brown Studio. I’m grateful that you’re here and hope that my work can be the bridge that connects someone’s unique story from the past to yours today.
